During this first part of the trip you will have the opportunity to appreciate different ecosystems formed by morichales, rocky outcrops and gallery forests. You will visit the Bita river in Paso Ganao, the Dagua and Mesetas streams, the Cachicamo hills, and observe some bird species such as agulias and herons.
From Garcitas, you will take a boat and then start a river trip to El Tuparro National Natural Park located 30 kilometers upstream on the Orinoco River. Then you will transfer to the base camp which will be located at the mouth of the Tomo or Tuparro River on the Orinoco River where you will arrive at approximately 5:30 pm. We start the day with breakfast, then we visit the Guahibo hill, a rocky outcrop that is part of the geological formations of the Guayana Shield. The Guahibo hill has an approximate height of 300 meters above sea level and to reach the top you must hike for approximately three hours including the time that travelers take to observe the landscape, from the top of the hill you have a spectacular view of the savannas and forests of the park El Tuparro, you can also see the Orinoco River and its imposing flow of Maipures. During the walk we find some species of birds such as eagles, woodpeckers, parrots and toucans.
The path we walk to the top of the hill is traced by a rocky outcrop forest which allows us to appreciate some species of palms and trees that are used by indigenous communities for the construction of their houses. After the tour we return to the base camp to take a refreshing swim in the Orinoco River, rest and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will start the tour to the Maipures Rivers, which were catalogued by the naturalist expeditionary Alexander von Humboldt as the eighth wonder of the world. It makes a journey of 800 kilometers from its source to the mouth, 270 kilometers of the Tomo River are part of the PNN El Tuparro.
On the Tomo River we navigate 5 kilometers until we reach the port of the Anaconda Trail, where we will take a two-hour hike through terra firme forest to see wildlife and appreciate the savannah of the highlands. After the walk we return to our base camp for lunch and rest.
